Time: unconstrained
Any special requirement: avoid lifting the pen
We are drawing lines.
Step 1. Grab pen1 and paper. Or your iPad2 and 🍎 pencil.
Step 2. Draw parallel horizontal lines, from left to right and vice versa. (Start at the top of the page if you’re drawing with a pen). Keep reducing the distance between the lines.
Step 3. Now draw vertical lines, from bottom to top and vice versa. (Again, if you are using a pen, draw lines from left to right to avoid running the ink with your hand). Draw the lines closer and closer.
Draw slow and steady. Try not to lift the pen during the process. And don’t worry about how straight the lines are! (Let me tell you a little secret: actually, we architects draw wobbly lines on purpose 😛).
Sketching is a craft.
And drawing lines is the very, very basic of the practice. (Plus, is also quite a meditative exercise!)
Cheers and happy sketching! 💫✏️

Taking here some inspiration from my teachers. During my first year in Architecture, we learned to draw using a pen instead of a pencil. Not being able to erase what we just drew forced us to think ahead of the drawing.
Do the assignments with the tools you feel most comfortable with! Play with different techniques. I personally use my iPad and Procreate app (100% recommend it). It allows me to layer the sketches, easily export and share. And create the gifs 🤓. Note that you’ll need tracing paper of some sort for the next assignments if you want to go full analog.
