Every year since 2019 I design a Christmas Card I send to my closest friends and relatives. The theme is always the same: a Christmas Tree. The medium varies every year depending on what I am exploring or toying with. This year, inspired by the excitement of learning something new and experimenting with parametric design, I decided to design a Generative Christmas Tree Card.

The beginning of every design is always exciting: a new spatial or creative item to solve. A new puzzle, a new set of constraints, and a framework for thought. My approach to any design inception (whether a building, a Masterplan Framework, a Design Code, or a Christmas Card) follows always the same process: I write down a set of both general and more specific design principles that will guide me through the journey. This set of guidelines will give me a framework to keep me on track during the process.
These are the design principles I set up for this project, the Christmas Card of 2022 (and that can be extended to any design process) plus some work-in-progress sketches of the design:
