“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” — Henry David Thoreau
I have been craving Spring all season long, however, it came to me suddenly one day in late May, as I was walking down Queen Street: how beautiful Autumn is with all its colours. Even (mostly) here in Auckland and its region.
How could I have forgotten it?
Auckland’s Autumn is a mix of greens, reds, and yellows. The native trees are evergreen, vivid and lush, and spectacularly leafy after the last rains. This landscape of native species is mixed with fallen-leaf trees tinted in yellows and reds, with some trees already greying and rushing toward winter.
This post is a visual collection of Autumn colours and impressions through a bunch of sketches I did during the past month. No more words. I would only ask you for a little instruction before you scroll to look at the drawings: go to your browser or music app and look for a song called Autumn Leaves.
I like the cover by Chet Baker and Paul Desmond. Play it. Enjoy it.

Happy sketching!
